Admission Requirements

  • Nursing diploma or associate’s degree in nursing.
  • Your official transcripts, reflecting a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the GuidedPath option.
  • The recommended minimum GPA is 3.0 for the FlexPath option. Applicants with lower GPAs may be considered by providing additional documentation for a holistic review.
    • Step Into FlexPath is an option for those who don’t qualify for FlexPath. You may start a program in our structured, online format, and then transition into FlexPath upon successful completion of one course, at a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • RN license verification and work experience acknowledgement form that verifies:
    • Your current, unrestricted RN license (or its equivalent) to practice in the United States.
  • Applicants who do not have any credits eligible for transfer must successfully complete a university-approved reading and writing assessment. By evaluating your skills prior to your first course, Capella can more effectively provide resources to prepare you for a successful learning experience.
  • SAT and ACT are not required for admission.


Admission Process

  • Students visit and choose to speak to an enrollment counselor or call 1-866-670-8737.
  • Student self-identifies as a Kaiser employee and part of the BHMT program. Student provides the BHMT award approval email to Enrollment Counselor.
  • Student fills out admission application, including Transcript Request form [Capella requests the transcript(s)].
  • Student chooses start date for RN-to-BSN program.
  • Admission and transcript fees are waived.


Graduation Process

  • Submit your graduation application.
  • Once the application has been received, the Records Processing and Operations department will work to determine your program completion status and notify you of the results.
  • If you are awarded or approved for graduation and you have completed all requirements for your degree, your degree will be conferred and you will receive your final transcript and diploma.
  • You can attend a commencement ceremony (held twice per year) or watch the webcast.
  • Upon graduation your free lifetime membership in the Capella University Alumni Association begins.

International transcripts: An individual is considered an international applicant if the highest degree completed was outside of the U.S., regardless of where the individual currently lives. Prep and Computer Skills prior to Applying

  • Does the institution provide an orientation prior to the first course?
    Yes. During the staff-facilitated University Orientation Seminar, which occurs prior to your first academic course, you will experience Capella’s courseroom and its navigation first hand, practice study skills, learn about Capella’s academic standards and program requirements, and find the resources and support to help you achieve success in the program.
  • What computer skills are expected of the students?
    Basic computer skills needed include familiarity with Microsoft Office or comparable MAC product and the ability to search the Internet.

    Recommended Computer Specifications
    A reliable computer, up-to-date software, and an Internet connection are the critical components required to ensure the successful completion of your coursework.
    Capella University’s technical support staff strongly recommends a broadband (Cable or DSL) Internet connection. Other high-speed and broadband connections will work but will not provide the best performance of tools and resources used by Capella, such as a Satellite connection or a shared/community Internet connection.
