College Success Seminar

 

Ocean County College, through the Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust, is offering a course on how to succeed in college: College Success Seminar (STSC-150). The course, offered 100% online, will assist students in building a solid foundation for a successful college experience through development of critical thinking, information literacy, interpersonal communication, communication in an academic environment, and resource acquisition. STSC-150 is designed to meet three critical needs:

 

  • Engage the student in learning opportunities, both in and out of the virtual classroom
  • Develop the appreciation of critical thought among all disciplines
  • Improve the student/faculty interactions at Ocean County College

 

Academic Success
Students who complete STSC-150 are more likely to:

 

  • Graduate
  • Have higher GPAs
  • Form connections and relationships with classmates
  • Be more engaged and effective learners
  • Have better attitude toward higher education

New students or returning students (if it has been more than 1 year since you last attended OCC) must apply to OCC before you register for courses.

PLEASE NOTE: BHMT will use your available KP tuition reimbursement funds for eligible tuition, fees and materials expenses. If available tuition reimbursement funds are not sufficient to cover expenses, BHMT will cover the remainder at no cost to you.

  • You must be a KP Union Alliance or Coalition Employee with “active” KP employment status.
  • You must have completed your probationary period.
  • You must be a BHMT eligible part-time or full-time KP benefited employee.
  • Open to all regions.

To succeed in Ocean County College (OCC) courses, you will need the following:

  • A basic understanding of computers and how to communicate effectively online using the internet.
  • A reliable laptop or desktop computer.
    • Note: Tablets and smartphones may not support all necessary software for OCC courses. While you can do some work on these devices, a laptop or desktop computer is essential.
  • A stable internet connection and up-to-date software.
    • Google Chrome is the required browser for OCC courses. It is free to download and essential for compatibility with our online proctoring system.
  • A functioning webcam and microphone, as these are needed for our online proctoring system.
  • Microsoft Office or Google Suite are recommended for completing assignments. OCC students have free access to Microsoft Office via their OCC student email.

Student Agreement

This program and participation is governed by the terms of the BHMT Student Agreement. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the student agreement; by registering and participating in this program you are agreeing to comply with it.

 

Unsuccessful Course Completion and Dropped Class Policy

Ben U programs require your time and effort on a consistent basis as well as communicating with the course instructor, tutor, or BHMT Career Development Coach if you are having difficulties or conflicts. Should you not complete your program successfully with a ‘C’ or better, pass, or drop the course by the first day of class, your participation in Trust programs may be suspended for a period of twelve months.
