Learning Readiness

Learning readiness is the key to academic success

Going back to school as an adult is a big step—especially when you’re balancing a busy life. Learning readiness means being a prepared student, not just enrolling in a class. Developing a positive mindset and learning environment will set you up for success.

Learning readiness building blocks

Learning readiness is a mix of skills and attitudes that work together. When you grow stronger in each aspect, learning will fit more easily into your busy life.

  • Motivation: Know why you’re learning. Clear goals help you stay focused and feel proud of your progress.
  • Time management: Plan your time for school, work, and life. Use a calendar or planner to stay organized.
  • Accountability: You’re the leader of your learning journey. We’re here to support you as you show up, stay engaged, and follow through on your goals.
  • Flexible learning: Try different ways to learn—online, in class, or with apps. Find what works best for you.
  • Resilience: When things get tough, don’t give up. Ask for help and keep going.
  • Support: You’re not alone. Talk to family, friends, teachers, your school advisor, and your BHTM coaches for help.
  • Experience: Your personal and professional experiences are valuable tools. Use what you already know to make sense of what you’re learning and strengthen your understanding.
  • Realistic goals: Take it one step at a time. It’s okay to go slow—just keep moving forward.
