Apprenticeship Programs
Learn while you work
Apprenticeship programs help you grow your career with paid, hands-on training. You’ll learn by doing—combining classroom lessons with real on-the-job experience in your chosen field.
There are two region-specific apprenticeships available to BHMT participants:
- Interventional Radiologic Technologist (IR) Apprenticeship (only available in Southern California)
- Sterile Processing Technician Apprenticeship (only available in Hawaii)
Interventional Radiologic Technologist (IR) Apprenticeship
Learn to assist doctors with specialized diagnostic and treatment procedures by working under the guidance of expert clinicians. You’ll learn how to:
- Follow medical imaging protocols
- Help physicians treat patients
- Support smooth clinic operations
NOTE: This apprenticeship is only currently available in Southern California.
Sterile Processing Technician Apprenticeship
Help keep patients safe by making sure all medical tools/supplies are clean, organized and ready for use. This program provides:
- 10 weeks of classroom training
- 1,000 hours of on-the-job experience
- Hands-on work in hospitals or clinics
NOTE: This apprenticeship is only available in Hawaii.

Apprenticeship programs are open at no cost to BHMT-eligible Kaiser Permanente employees in Southern California and Hawaii.
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Be a KP Union Alliance or Coalition employee
- Be a BHMT-eligible employee
- Have completed your probationary period
