Networking

What is networking?

Networking involves building and maintaining strong relationships with people who can support your career now and in the future. It’s one of the most powerful tools for your career development and advancement.

Networking in action

  • Formal Networking: Go to conferences, workshops, or meetings with professional groups.
  • Informal Networking: Talk with coworkers at social events, online groups, or on professional social media.
  • Informational Interviews: Talk with people in jobs or departments to learn new things, and get advice about jobs, careers, or education. The goal is to learn not to ask for a job
  • Mentorship: Learn from someone with more experience who can guide and support you at KP.
  • Team Projects: Work with others on research, patient care, or ways to improve healthcare.
  • Healthcare Networks: Join groups that help nurses, and healthcare professionals work better together to care for patients.
  • LinkedIn: LinkedIn is a must-have for growing your network, sharing your skills, and discovering new opportunities, while staying connected to the latest in healthcare.

  • Kaiser Permanente’s (KP) Business Resource Groups (BRGs): Employee-led groups that support a culture of workplace belonging, growth and empowerment, which align with KP’s core mission and values. BRGs are voluntary and open to everyone. All employees are encouraged to participate in the BRGs.
