What Is a Career Map?
A career map is a visual step-by-step plan that shows what you want to achieve, the skills and experience you need, and a realistic timeline for reaching your professional goals. It’s your blueprint for career success—created with guidance from your Career Development Coach.
Map your path forward
The first step toward doing work you love is having a plan. Partnering with your Career Development Coach, you’ll:
- Discover your strengths and areas to grow
- Set clear goals and steps to reach them
- Build confidence and self-awareness
- Track progress and adjust as needed
- Use your map as a guide in conversations with mentors and others who can help you succeed
When you create your career map with a coach, you’re ready to move forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Before you outline your career map, think about where you want to go with your career. Here are some areas to explore with your Career Development Coach:
- Know Your Why – Think about what motivates you and what kind of work fits your strengths and values.
- Set Your Goals – Pick a short-term goal and a long-term vision for where you want to go.
- Find Skill Gaps – Compare your skills to what’s needed for your target job. Use BHMT programs to grow.
- Make a Plan – Break goals into 3–6-month steps with clear milestones and deadlines.
- Get Support – Meet with your Career Coach and talk to mentors who can help guide you.
