Assistance Program
Support for success
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) helps you receive your KP Tuition Reimbursement (TR) benefit you use to pay for school expenses (except travel) faster. If approved, BHMT pays for your approved KP TR applications. TAP applications take approximately 6–8 weeks to process.
How do you get paid?
You can receive tuition reimbursement payments in two ways:
- Direct Payment to Your School – BHMT pays your school directly.
- Reimbursement to You – If you pay first, BHMT reimburses you after you show proof of payment.

Who can apply?
- You must be a KP employee and a member of either the Alliance of Health Care Unions or Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions.
- You need to complete your probationary period.
- You must work at least 20 hours per week in a KP-benefited role.
- You must qualify for KP Tuition Reimbursement (TR).
IMPORTANT: If you don’t qualify for KP TR, you cannot use Tuition Assistance.
Tuition assistance requirements
- You must successfully complete the course listed on your application to maintain eligibility.
- Upload your grades / proof of completion to your KP TR application within 30 days of the course ending.
- Reapply each January to keep using Tuition Assistance without interruption.
- You can keep using your KP TR benefit until you reach the yearly TR benefit limit.
You must complete these steps before you apply for Tuition Assistance:
- Talk to your manager.
Your manager must approve your KP tuition reimbursement application to receive TR payments.
- Review your regional tuition reimbursement policy.
- KP tuition reimbursement policies vary by region. Reviewing the policy will help you understand which expenses are covered and which are out-of-pocket.
- Take note of the KP TR application deadlines to ensure your request is approved on time.
- Meet with a BHMT Career Development Coach.
