The Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust has partnered with New Horizons Computer Learning Centers to provide FREE basic computer applications training. Whether you are new to computers or an advanced user, with New Horizons’ computer training platform, you’ll gain real-world skills and create a solid foundation to build your computer knowledge


Access multiple levels of computer training in 10 different Microsoft products. Microsoft Office courses are offered in version 2013 or 2016.

An older version of the Windows 7 operating system that is commonly used especially in a corporate environment. Gain knowledge in operating systems and file management skills. Or familiarize yourself with the latest Windows 8.1 operating system — its user interface and its basic capabilities.

Access is a database tool for gathering and understanding all of your information — such as phone numbers, inventory and even guest lists — providing a convenient way to enter, navigate, and report your data.

The Outlook desktop application is the world’s most popular application for reading email, managing a calendar, and connecting to people. The Outlook desktop application works with both your personal and work email.

Excel is a spreadsheet application typically used to display and manipulate numerical data. It provides data organization and analysis tools that enables you to sort, extract and generate charts from spreadsheet data. Excel is the standard spreadsheet application for both business and personal use.

PowerPoint enables users to create dynamic, informational slide presentations through the use of text, graphics, and animation.

Microsoft Project allows users to understand and control project schedules and finances, communicate and present project information, and to ensure that projects are completed on schedule.

SharePoint Foundation
SharePoint Foundation provides a tool to quickly create many types of sites where employees can collaborate on Web pages, documents, lists, calendars, and data.

Publisher is a desktop publishing program used to create, layout, and edit publications such as newsletters, brochures, catalogs, postcards, and calendars.

Visio is a diagramming tool that can be used to visually communicate technical as well as non-technical representations of ideas, processes, charts, structures, layouts, software models, blueprints and more.

Microsoft Word is a software application that allows users to perform word processing to create documents such as letters, invitations, term papers, flyers, resumes, and novels

New Horizons offers 5 convenient and flexible learning methods:


  • Instructor Led (ILT) – Certified instructors guide learners through material in a traditional classroom setting where they participate in group activities, complete labs, and ask questions.
  • Online Live (OLL) – A live classroom experience broadcast online allowing you to attend training virtually from your home or office.
  • Mentored Learning (ML) – A more flexible schedule than ILT. Students get one-on-one mentoring from a New Horizons professional, and the course can be taken in a center or online.
  • Hosted Distance Learning (HDL) – Experience a supportive learning environment by taking an online course at one of New Horizon’s locations. Enjoy an environment free of distraction with no worries about technical issues or setup time.
  • On-Site Training (OST) – Certified instructors guide learners through material in a traditional classroom setting where they participate in group activities, complete labs, and ask questions at a facility near your work or home.
Who Should Enroll?

The Basic Computer Training is intended for BHMT bargaining unit members—whether a beginner or technology master—who want to learn how to better use technology to further their career goals.



How Do I Register?
  1. Click “Register” button below.
  2. View the list of course offerings and click the blue “Basic Computer Applications” button.
  3. Choose your desired course from the drop down menu. Once you have chosen a course, you can sort by start date, time, location and delivery method.
  4. Click “Enroll” and complete the Preregistration page. For “Exam Voucher Order?” click “No”
  5. You will receive an email confirmation and instructions from New Horizons confirming your enrollment.


PLEASE NOTE: BHMT dedicated classes are currently only available in the Southern California and Georgia regions.

  • You must be a KP Union Alliance or Coalition Employee with “active” KP employment status.
  • You must have completed your probationary period.
  • You must be a benefited employee typically working 20 or more hours per week.
  • Open to all regions.

  • If you don’t have access to a reliable computer, we can lend you one! Learn more.
  • Current version of a common browser (such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox) and Adobe Flash Player
  • Must have a microphone to fully participate in the Online Live courses. Check your computer for Online Live courses


Student Agreement

This program and participation is governed by the terms of the BHMT Student Agreement. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the student agreement; by registering and participating in this program you are agreeing to comply with it.


Unsuccessful Course Completion and Dropped Class Policy

Ben U programs require your time and effort on a consistent basis as well as communicating with the course instructor, tutor, or BHMT Career Counselor if you are having difficulties or conflicts. Should you not complete your program successfully with a ‘C’ or better, pass, or drop the course by the institution’s 1st drop date, your participation in Trust programs may be suspended for a period of twelve months.
