Who We Are & What We Do

The mission of the Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust (BHMT) is to support life-long learning and provide opportunities for participants to directly engage in their own career development. BHMT provides Career Counseling services and a portfolio of diverse programs to support eligible employees at all points throughout their careers including:

  • Cohort-based curriculum through Regional and Multi-Regional Training Programs
  • Individually driven opportunities in the areas of academics, certification/licensing, continuing education, IT, language, and soft skills competency

BHMT works closely with Kaiser Permanente’s (KP) National & Regional Workforce Planning and Development to adapt and expand Trust offerings to meet the needs of our management partners, labor union partners and those of the individual participant.

At the end of 2015, 48,701 KP employees across 7 regions were eligible to participate in BHMT programs.

PROGRAM ENROLLMENTS BY INTENT

Enrolled in an academic/training program specific to a job classification employed by KP. They are not working in the the field/job they are training for, and cannot practice in that field/job until program completion.

Working within their field of study and currently pursuing an area of specialty expertise which requires certification by an external oversight entity before they are allowed to practice that area of specialization in the workplace.

Enrolled in an academic program that will enhance their education level, but generally will not lead directly to advancing along a career path immediately upon completion of the program (examples: Associate Degree RN to BSN; college prep or pre‐requisite college courses; pre‐enrollment to clinical training programs).

Programs (generally non‐degree) that provide enhanced skills that directly impact a participant’s effectiveness in the workplace, may or may not be directly related to their current job, and generally does not lead directly to advancing along a career path (examples: Bi‐Lingual/Language competency training; Continuing Education contact hours; computer/technological skills; personal development/leadership skills).

The Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust, part of our National Agreement negotiated in 2005, supports continuing education of its participants across KP. Ben Hudnall was a tireless advocate for organized labor and Kaiser Permanente’s Labor Management Partnership. Ben was an unwavering supporter of education and career advancement. The Trust was named in his honor to further acknowledge his dedication to workers.
